Nigel Gray Award 

The biennial Nigel Gray Award for Achievement in Tobacco Control was established by Cancer Council Victoria to recognise our unsung heroes whose tobacco control efforts in the Oceania region have significantly advanced health outcomes for the public. The award is peer-nominated and is judged by a committee of experts. The award is named after Dr Nigel Gray AO, who was a pioneer of tobacco control both in Australia and Internationally, Director of Cancer Council Victoria from 1968 until 1995, and President of the Union for International Cancer Control from 1990 to 1994. Dame Tariana Turia Award 

Hāpai Te Hauora Māori Public Health are delighted to present the prestigious Dame Tariana Turia Award. Dame Tariana is a fearless advocate for tobacco control, a previous co-leader of Te Pāti Māori a political party in New Zealand and a champion for reducing inequalities in Māori smoking rates in New Zealand. The Dame Tariana Turia Award recognises significant contribution to achievement in indigenous tobacco control outcomes and persistence in the face of opposition and criticism regarding indigenous people and their rights to a tobacco free generation.

Tobacco Control Early Career Award

The Early Career Award was established by Cancer Council’s Tobacco Issues Committee in 2019 to recognise up and coming early career professionals whose efforts in the Oceania region have the potential to lead, or have already led to, advanced tobacco control outcomes. The award is peer-nominated and is judged by a committee of experts.

Tom Calma Award (NEW)

Tom Calma Award is a prestigious recognition for individuals committed to integrity, social justice, and the right to health. It honours those who challenge the status quo to advance equity and systemic change in tobacco control. Named after Professor Tom Calma AO, a champion for Indigenous rights and wellbeing, the award celebrates his legacy in tobacco control, health equity and Indigenous affairs. Recipients embody his spirit of advocacy and dedication to creating a fairer and healthier society, with a strong commitment to holding the tobacco and nicotine industry accountable for the harms they cause.
